The honest version
Deliverability consulting is help from someone who diagnoses and repairs inbox placement problems for a living. It is genuinely valuable in a narrow set of situations, and unnecessary in most of the situations where it gets bought.
I curated our approach to this from a decade of building email tools. SmartrMail had 12,000 customers and sent six billion messages, and our team has now solved deliverability across two companies at that scale. The pattern I keep seeing is that the majority of problems people hire out are four problems in a trench coat, and all four are self-diagnosable.
