Nine, not ten. Fifty-five Los Angeles agencies went into this research and fifteen cleared the gate. Six of those fifteen were then ranked out, four of them because their Los Angeles claim did not survive their own team page: the nearest verified person was in Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach or San Diego. Reaching ten would have meant pretending otherwise. The honest finding about this market is that Los Angeles is full of excellent full-service agencies carrying email as one line on a menu of fifteen, and very short of firms whose business is email. Only three of the fifteen are email-led. That shapes the whole list, and it is why specialization is scored rather than assumed. On the other criterion: email plus AI is still clunky, the tools do not connect well to AI yet, and AI does not actually know email marketing nuance. Ask it to write a welcome sequence and you get generic, unsourced fluff. So I scored the evidence behind each AI claim, not the claim.
1. The Email Marketers
1The Email Marketers
Melanie Balke, CEO and Founder, The Email Marketers
- Best for
- Retention-only, with AI inside its own operations
- Founded
- 2019
- Location
- Santa Monica, with a team across four continents
- ESP
- Klaviyo Platinum Partner
- AI stack
- Claude Code
Every other firm here sells AI to its clients. This one bought it for itself. In 2023 Melanie Balke went looking in public for an AI consultant to make operations and fulfillment at the agency more efficient, then hired one: Brandon da Costa has been AI Consultant here for sixteen months, alongside a six-year specialist who builds custom AI workflows for copywriting throughput. Balke still does the work herself and posts about finally getting a Claude Code workflow to behave after weeks of tinkering.
My view is that AI means hiring more people where it works rather than fewer, and this is what that looks like. The published case studies are all email numbers, including Llama Naturals at 835 percent more email revenue in under sixty days. The site's own AI copy is a banner and tells you none of this.
Take it when the mandate is retention and you want the people doing it to have already automated their own production work.
2. Flypost
2Flypost
Dwight Aims, Co-Founder and Creative Director, Flypost
- Best for
- Pure email and SMS craft, Los Angeles
- Founded
- 2023
- Team size
- Small team
- Location
- Los Angeles
- ESP
- Klaviyo agency partner
Seven services, and all seven are email, SMS, or the strategy and design underneath them. That is the tightest menu in the city. The work is patient rather than clever: for Lofi Girl the team built a four-email custom abandoned cart series wired into the streaming platform, worth more than $44,000 since launch, inside a 64 percent annual lift. Linus Bikes is $270,000 in email revenue and a 150 percent sales lift. Co-founder Dwight Aims runs it from Los Angeles.
I will be blunt about the AI score, the lowest on this page. No named tool, no named workflow, no AI role. The strongest published claim is its email manager's use of Klaviyo predictive segmentation. Our own aggregate data says a second cart email recovers 22 percent more carts than a single one, which is the kind of gain this shop is built to find.
Take it when you want every hour billed to go into email and you would rather have craft than a tool list.
3. Absolute Web
3Absolute Web
Sergiu Tabaran, Chief Operating Officer, Absolute Web
- Best for
- Klaviyo Elite Master plus enterprise engineering
- Founded
- 1999
- Team size
- 85+
- Location
- Century City office, headquarters and engineering bench in Miami
- ESP
- Klaviyo Elite Master Partner, Dotdigital, Attentive, Yotpo Premier Partner
- AI stack
- Rebuy, Zowie, Black Crow AI, Clerk, Orita, Signifyd, Gorgias AI
Klaviyo Elite Master is the highest partner tier any firm in this research holds, and the Klaviyo partner page is where the email practice actually lives. The AI services line is unusually specific for an agency page: Rebuy, Zowie, Black Crow AI, Clerk and Orita named as tool selections, Klaviyo churn-risk flows, machine-learning inventory forecasting. Sixty-two named clients, and a Capezio replatform at 144 percent conversion rate and 90 percent faster deployments.
The Century City address is real. The company is not from here. The COO, the CEO, the Director of Technology and every engineer are in Miami, which is where Absolute Web says it is based. Hire it for the partner tier and the engineering, not for a team you can meet on Wednesday.
Take it when the platform and the email program have to move together and you want the highest Klaviyo tier doing it.
4. Brenton Way
4Brenton Way
Jonathan Saeidian, Chief Executive Officer, Brenton Way
- Best for
- Full-funnel growth with a real LA address
- Founded
- 2017
- Team size
- 50+
- Location
- Westwood, Los Angeles
- AI stack
- IcarusX
The only ranked firm with a suite number you could stand outside, on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood, run from Los Angeles by its founder for nine years. The one case study here that is lifecycle rather than paid media is also the most interesting: a segmentation-first warming strategy reactivated 15 million dormant records from SmileDirectClub's estate and produced more than $430,000 in attributed revenue in the first month at 99 percent deliverability. Waking a dead list that size usually ends on a blocklist.
Cold infrastructure is not marketing email. Different domains, different mailboxes, different volumes, different deliverability rules, and that job sits right on the line. The AI marketing systems page describes agents deployed behind human review gates, which is the right shape, and IcarusX is a named proprietary system with no published number behind it yet.
Take it when you want a full-funnel team you can actually visit, and you have a reactivation problem worth doing properly.
5. GR0
5GR0
Jordan Vanek, VP of Operations, GR0
- Best for
- AI adoption inside the agency, plus a real lifecycle bench
- Founded
- 2020
- Location
- Los Angeles
- ESP
- Klaviyo
- AI stack
- Claude
The clearest evidence in this research of an agency changing how its own people work. Kevin Miller bought the team Claude subscriptions and gave a weekly all-hands slot to what is working, and the firm published original research with KnoCommerce across more than 6,000 Shopify brands instead of another opinion piece. The lifecycle bench is real: Jordan Vanek ran email and SMS here for three years before taking operations.
My read is that being agent-first in your work and connecting everything else to it is what 10x productivity actually looks like. The email evidence is thinner than the AI evidence: HidrateSpark at a 67 percent order value lift from a single email and SMS campaign. The only Los Angeles claim on the site is a 2022 badge, though the leadership really is here.
Take it when you want a performance team that has actually changed how it works, and email is one channel in the program.
6. Wpromote
6Wpromote
Michael Stone, Chief Strategy Officer, Wpromote
- Best for
- Enterprise media with proprietary AI tooling
- Location
- Los Angeles, Chicago and New York
- ESP
- Klaviyo, Attentive
- AI stack
- Polaris IQ, Growth Planner, Creative Accelerator, AI Page Scorecard, AI Search Dashboard
Nobody else in Los Angeles has built this much of its own software. Polaris IQ is a platform with parts you can name: a Growth Planner media mix model published at 95 percent forecasting accuracy, a Creative Accelerator app that systematically tests creative themes on Meta. There is a real AI search practice, and Southwest Airlines names Wpromote its AI search partner.
Then read the lifecycle page and email is one of eleven service lines, which is why this is the least specialized firm ranked. Two numbers I hold onto around stacks this size: Gartner expects more than 40 percent of agentic AI projects to be canceled by 2027, and MIT found 95 percent of enterprise pilots showing no profit impact, with the failure organizational rather than technical. None of Polaris IQ's four named pillars is lifecycle.
Take it when the brief is enterprise media and you want forecasting and AI search handled by the same team as the email.
7. Hawke Media
7Hawke Media
Randy Osborn, VP of Hawke AI, Hawke Media
- Best for
- Outsourced CMO, physically in Los Angeles
- Founded
- 2014
- Location
- Santa Monica, plus Chicago and New York
- ESP
- Customers.ai
- AI stack
- Hawke AI
If you want a person in the room in Los Angeles, this is the shortest path to one. Erik Huberman has run it from Santa Monica for twelve years and the firm takes over the Santa Monica Pier every October. The AI is more than a banner: Randy Osborn holds the title VP of Hawke AI and describes himself as an automation systems architect, the generative engine team runs real buyer prompts against ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Overviews, and two case studies tie AI-driven budget management to a number, including LAFAZA at 104 percent more advertised sales.
I have looked at about a hundred AI CMO platforms. This is the version staffed by people, and the trade is that lifecycle marketing sits alongside roughly twenty other services rather than leading any of them, so nobody here wakes up thinking only about your email.
Take it when you need senior marketing leadership in Los Angeles now and email is one of several problems.
8. Coalition Technologies
8Coalition Technologies
Joel Gross, Founder, Coalition Technologies
- Best for
- Email plus organic in restricted categories
- Founded
- 2009
- Team size
- 250+
- Location
- Downtown Los Angeles, with a largely remote bench
- ESP
- Klaviyo, Omnisend, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Salesforce
The first sentence on the site is that this is an SEO services company, which is unusually honest for a firm carrying a sixteen-year email practice and five ESP partnerships. The best email proof is recent and specific: Native Cigarettes at 13x email marketing ROI within two quarters, in a category that cannot buy ads at all, which is when email stops being a channel and becomes the business. Joel Gross has run it for seventeen years from Los Angeles County, from four years in his apartment to 270 full-time staff.
The AI work is all client-facing search visibility rather than anything inside email delivery, and the sharpest public AI post here argues that GPT-6 Astra is not AGI. Worth knowing before you brief copy at scale: raw AI text is now a deliverability liability, because Google filters high-similarity output roughly twice as hard.
Take it when your category cannot buy ads and you need organic and email run together by people who have done it for sixteen years.
9. Fluency Firm
9Fluency Firm
Jacob Rokeach, Founder and CEO, Fluency Firm
- Best for
- Growth and lifecycle from one small team
- Founded
- 2021
- Location
- Founder in Los Angeles, team distributed across the US
Five service lines, and one of them is CRM, lifecycle and retention marketing, which makes this the tightest menu among the generalists here. The published numbers are email numbers rather than paid media numbers wearing an email label: Henry Rose at a 122 percent sales increase from segmentation, and Branded Bills at more than 100 percent email revenue year over year.
The AI hire points at the right target and is four months old. Dexter Slinn's stated remit is automations and internal production workflows, meaning the firm's own delivery rather than a service to sell. We once had an agent spend too many cycles chasing premium design rules during campaign setup and delay shipping a working email, so I know how early this work is everywhere. No office address is published, and Jacob Rokeach is the Los Angeles claim.
Take it when you want paid media and lifecycle in one small team and you value segmentation work over send volume.
Also worth knowing
Six firms cleared the research and did not make the ranking. Naming them with the reason is more useful than a longer list, because the reasons are the part you can check.
Top Growth Marketing (22) has the most AI depth per dollar in the pool: Klaviyo AI predictive segments for lifetime value, churn and next purchase, a ChatGPT Ads and answer-engine service line, and automated brand mention monitoring across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude using Brand Radar and Profound. It is ranked out on city presence. The only Los Angeles evidence anywhere in the research is a page heading reading "Los Angeles TikTok Agency", there is no address, and a LinkedIn company employee pull returned no profiles at all, so no person could be placed here. Separately, every published case-study result is a paid-media result and none is an email result, and I have not repeated its claim that email and SMS drive 20 to 35 percent of revenue for 218 brands, because it is an aggregate with no client attached.
Ignite Visibility (21) holds the only award in this pool for AI work specifically, a 2025 Netty Award for Best Use of AI in Marketing, and its "AI inbox optimization" line, subject lines and preview text engineered for inboxes that summarize before a subscriber reads, is the most current email-and-AI idea published by anyone in this research. It qualifies for the metro on an Irvine office in Orange County. Headquarters is San Diego, both co-founders and the COO are in San Diego or New York, and no employee found is based in Los Angeles.
KlientBoost (20) has genuinely interesting internal tooling: Kite, home-built software watching for anomalies and performance bleeds around the clock, a custom calculator app the founder opens live on sales calls to talk a prospect out of a budget, and a published workflow running months of discovery-call transcripts through an LLM for voice-of-customer analysis, credited with a 50 percent lift in qualified leads. None of it touches the email practice, the research found no email case study with a number, and the address is Costa Mesa.
Pacific IQ (19) is a Shopify Premier Partner with twenty named clients including Sotheby's Wine, Duckhorn Vineyards and Flamingo Estate, and Sweet E's Bake Shop at 4x revenue growth attributed to email. Its founder also published the most honest AI post in the pool, explaining why the team looked at Meta's TRIBE v2 brain model and decided not to deploy it. The about page says the firm is located in Los Angeles, but both co-founders are in Laguna Beach and the rest of the team is in New Zealand, Virginia, Tampa, Ontario and Philadelphia. No Los Angeles person could be found.
Infinity Media is a credible Los Angeles firm with a Playa Vista address, eighteen named clients and eleven case studies carrying numbers. It is the one firm here excluded by the AI floor rather than by geography: the only claims tagged as AI in the research are the service tile labels "Email Automation & Marketing" and "SMS Automation & Marketing", which describe scheduling. No named tool, no named workflow, no AI role, no case study.
Cleverly is excluded on category. It sells B2B LinkedIn and cold-email lead generation, and it is good at it, with seventeen named clients including PwC and Walmart. But its email is outbound sequence infrastructure, which is a different discipline from lifecycle email with different domains, mailboxes, volumes and deliverability rules. The site also says the firm started in Los Angeles and now runs fully remote, and none of the eight leaders found on its company page are based here.
How to choose between them
If the brief is email and only email, there are three firms in this city and two of them are on this list. The Email Marketers is the one to call when you want a retention program run by people who do nothing else and have already put AI inside their own production. Flypost is the one to call when you are smaller, want every result to be an email result, and would rather have craft than a tool list. Both are small, and small is the trade.
If your email problem is really a platform problem, stop shopping for an email agency. Absolute Web has the highest Klaviyo tier here and an engineering bench that migrates enterprise stores for a living. Coalition Technologies has sixteen years and five ESP partnerships inside a company that describes itself as an SEO firm. Neither will win a specialization contest and neither is trying to.
If you are buying a whole growth function and email is one input, the three firms tied on 27 earned it from different columns. Brenton Way has the address and the one real lifecycle case study. GR0 has changed how its own people work and published the research. Wpromote has built more software than anyone else here and is the least specialized firm ranked. The order inside that tie means nothing, so pick the column you are actually paying for.
The question worth asking any of them is which part is automated, which part is a person, and which part is billed by the hour. Three of the nine have already answered it in public, which is the single most useful thing any firm on this page does. The Email Marketers prints a rate card: $4,400 to start, $6,500 for the average client, $18,000 at full scope. Flypost prints three tiers from $2,000 to $12,000 and up, with the onboarding fee named separately. Coalition Technologies names a floor of roughly $1,600 a month. The other six answer it on a call, and I checked every one of their sites before writing that. I never wanted to run an agency myself, because from the outside it always looked like you are only ever marking up somebody's hours. The firms worth paying are the ones that have made that question easy to answer, and publishing the number is the cheapest way there is to do it.
One number worth asking for is setup time, and another is what you keep when you leave. I said on SaaS Stories in September 2026 that "portability of like insights and flows and setups is something that's kind of lacked a little bit with email tools." Ask the agency what its onboarding costs, and whether the flows come with you if you go.
How this list is ranked
Fifty-five Los Angeles agencies were extracted from public sources and their own sites. Fifteen cleared a gate with three parts: a stated Los Angeles presence, at least one published AI claim that is not a homepage banner, and email or retention as a core service rather than the fifteenth item on a menu. Six of those fifteen were then ranked out on a read, and all six are named above with the reason. Nine remain, which is the number this city actually supports.
Each criterion rewards something different. Specialization rewards a firm whose service menu is messaging and little else, because craft comes from repetition. AI capability rewards published evidence of automation inside the firm's own delivery, not a banner: a named tool, a named workflow, an AI role with the work described, or a case study with a number. Evidence rewards named clients, results traceable to a brand, partner tiers and awards that can be checked. City presence rewards people verifiably in Los Angeles rather than a heritage claim, which is the criterion that did the most work here. Each is scored out of 10 for a total out of 40. These are my scores against those four criteria and nothing else. No third-party review score fed into any of them, and none is republished here as data.
A shell test was run against all fifteen qualifiers: high AI weight, zero named clients, zero case studies, zero or one named person. Every other city in this research produced one. Los Angeles produced none, and the firm with the most named AI tools in the pool also has eighteen named clients and six case studies, so it is not a shell.
Three claims were refused and do not appear anywhere above. Coalition Technologies' homepage figure of up to 8,900 percent email ROI, because no named client is attached to it. Top Growth Marketing's 20 to 35 percent revenue figure across 218 brands, for the same reason. And KlientBoost's description of itself as a full-service email marketing agency is reported as its own claim rather than as a finding, because the research surfaced no email case study with a number behind it. A ranking that repeats an untraceable number is just a directory with opinions.
How this list is ranked
I score every agency here out of 40, ten points each for specialization, AI capability, published evidence and a real Los Angeles team. The scores are mine, against those four criteria and nothing else. I score blind, from published evidence, before I open any customer list, so using Nitrosend is worth zero points and is disclosed on the card where it applies.
Nitrosend is the company I co-founded. It sells email infrastructure to agencies and is not an email marketing agency itself, so it does not appear on this list and could not. Nobody paid for a place here, and no place on this list is for sale.
I score AI capability because Nitrosend publishes this list and Nitrosend is built for agencies that run client email from an AI agent. That is my commercial interest and you should read the list knowing it. An agency that adds real AI capability will score higher here the next time I check this page, and Nitrosend for agencies is one way to do that and not the only one. I score claims on evidence rather than on banners: a named tool, a named workflow, a case study with a result, or an AI role on the team page. Every AI claim here links to its source.
The scoring is positive only: a lower score means less specialized for this brief, never a worse agency, and all 9 entries say what that firm is genuinely best at.
Three firms on this list are tied on 27 and two more are tied on 26, and in each case the points are earned in different columns, so the order inside a tie carries no meaning and I have not invented a gap. This page ranks nine rather than ten on purpose. Fifty-five Los Angeles agencies went into the research and fifteen cleared the gate, but six of those fifteen were ranked out on a read and all six are named on the page with the reason. A tenth slot would have meant ranking a firm whose nearest verified person is in Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach or San Diego. One thing to know while you read my scores: Nitrosend is the company I co-founded, it publishes this page, and it sells email infrastructure to agencies. Nobody paid to be here and there is no entry to buy.
If you are an agency reading your own entry and you want the AI score to move, the thing that moves it is published evidence: one named workflow, one case study with a number, one role on the team page with the work actually described. A couple of agencies found us off X for exactly this reason, because setting up a client, optimizing them and flicking between brands from an agent is a real time saver for marketing, email and web development shops. Nitrosend for agencies is one way to produce that evidence, and it is not the only one.
FAQ
The Email Marketers, at 33 out of 40. It is a retention-only firm that put AI into its own operations rather than selling it, and it is one of only three of the nine that publish what they charge. If you want the highest Klaviyo partner tier in the city, that is Absolute Web at Elite Master. If you want the shortest path to a senior person physically in Los Angeles, that is Hawke Media or Brenton Way. If the brief is a platform migration with the email program riding along, it is Absolute Web again and it is not close.
Between $1,600 and $18,000 a month, and the two firms that publish a middle put it at $3,500 to $6,500: Flypost's growth tier and The Email Marketers' average client. Those are published numbers rather than a guess, and here is where each one comes from. The Email Marketers prints its full rate card: engagements start at $4,400 a month for a dedicated five-person senior team of strategist, project manager, copywriter, designer and Klaviyo implementation specialist, the average client pays $6,500, and full scope across email, SMS, direct mail, subscriptions and loyalty runs to $18,000. Flypost prints three tiers: $2,000 to $3,500 a month for a brand doing $1M to $3M, $3,500 to $6,000 for $3M to $15M, and $6,000 to $12,000 and up above $15M, plus a one-time onboarding fee of $1,500 to $5,000 that most brands forget to budget. Coalition Technologies names a floor of roughly $1,600 a month for a foundational program of campaign management, automation setup, segmentation and reporting. Three of the nine publish a number. The other six do not, and I checked each of their sites before writing that.
Four things move a quote inside that range. Seniority is the largest, and it is the reason a $2,000 retainer and a $6,500 retainer can both say full service: the difference is who touches the account and how many other accounts that person carries. Melanie Balke puts a number on the thing she sells against, a strategist carrying thirteen accounts. Second is channel scope, because email alone is cheaper than email plus SMS plus direct mail plus loyalty. Third is list size, segment count and how many integrations have to be kept alive. Fourth is the billing model itself: the same rate card puts defined builds and migrations at $100 to $300 an hour, and Hawke Media names the four fee models it works in as flat monthly, percent of spend or budget managed, hybrid, and project.
Two costs sit outside the retainer and get left out of most proposals. The first is the sending platform, which is your bill and not the agency's: Flypost's own guide puts Klaviyo at roughly $700 a month at 50,000 contacts and $1,400 and up past 100,000, before SMS. At 100K contacts sending twice a month, Mailgun or SES costs $0.80 to $1.00 per 1,000 emails, which works out to about $160 a month in sending against $400 to $600 on Mailchimp or Klaviyo, so the platform line is worth an argument. The second is the in-house alternative, which is not free either. Wpromote is hiring a Head of Email and Lifecycle Marketing at $168,000 to $198,000 out of its El Segundo headquarters. That is roughly $14,000 a month in salary alone, before payroll costs, before software, before a designer, for one person rather than a team of five.
It cannot be bought and it cannot be self-declared, which is why it is worth points here. Klaviyo's own announcement of the tier says partners are nominated by their Partner Manager and Partner Success Manager against quantitative requirements first, then put through a formal qualitative review, and names what is reviewed: relevant certifications, client health and net promoter scores, adoption of new product lines and features, and standing in the partner community. Only nominated partners who clear both halves are elevated. Absolute Web is the only firm in this research holding it and still states Elite Master on its own Klaviyo page as of September 22, 2026. Flypost states certified Klaviyo agency partner status and no Master tier. The Email Marketers' founder states Klaviyo Platinum Partner on her own profile, while the site itself publishes no tier at all.
The platform started doing the agency's first hour of work. On June 30, 2026 Klaviyo moved Composer, its AI marketing agent, into public beta: ask it what to focus on and it audits every live campaign, flow and segment, returns a ranked list of revenue opportunities, then builds the cross-channel campaign itself, drawing on patterns from nearly 200,000 brands, with nothing going live without approval. Audit, flow buildout and segmentation is precisely what a $1,600 to $2,000 foundational retainer has historically bought. It does not remove the need for a firm, but it does move the line on what is worth paying a person for.
The second change is at the far end of the pipe. Melanie Balke argues that AI is now an active gatekeeper between your email and the reader's attention, and that email now has to be built for AI summarization as well as for the reader. Treat that as a deliverability problem rather than a copywriting one: the top three inbox providers, Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft, now control 77 percent of the world's email inbox market share, so whatever those three decide to do to the inbox is simply the market. Ignite Visibility's AI inbox optimization line, named further up this page, is the most current email-and-AI idea published by anyone in this research, and that firm did not make the ranking.
For the work itself, no, and this page contains its own proof. Absolute Web holds the highest Klaviyo tier here while running its CEO, COO, Director of Technology and engineers out of Miami. The Email Marketers is Los Angeles-led with delivery spread across South Africa, Morocco, Brazil and Portugal. Neither is worse for it. What a Los Angeles address actually buys is a room: Melanie Balke runs an invite-only AI showcase in her own backyard for Los Angeles operators, on the rule that every flow shown has to be a proven working one, and Hawke Media takes over the Santa Monica Pier every October. If you want a senior person in the room when a launch goes wrong, that is what city presence is scored for. If you do not, pay for the bench instead and stop weighting the address.
Because the mechanical half of email production is the expensive half, and firms that have automated it can put their people on the work that needs people. It is also the easiest claim on the internet to fake, which is why every AI point on this page links to a named tool, a named workflow, a published result or a named person's own profile. Nitrosend publishes this list, I co-founded it, and it is built for agencies running client email from an AI agent, so I am stating that interest rather than hiding it. No agency paid to be here and there is no entry to buy.
Because a tenth would have meant ranking a firm whose nearest verified person is in Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach or San Diego. Fifty-five agencies went into the research and fifteen cleared the gate, but four of those fifteen have a Los Angeles claim that their own team page does not support, one fails the AI floor, and one is in a different category entirely. All six are named above. The count is an output of the criteria, not a target.
