The 8 best Brevo alternatives in 2026

Eight platforms genuinely replace Brevo, and they are not interchangeable. The one that suits a weekly newsletter will not carry a store, and the one built for a store overcharges a publisher, so choosing on price alone means rebuilding automations you already paid to build once. This list is ranked on the criteria published further down, against vendor facts checked on 7 September 2026. We make Nitrosend, and it is first here because nothing else on the list runs transactional and marketing email in one account that an AI agent operates over MCP, and for four of the eight jobs below the answer is somebody else.

VerifiedGeorge HartleyBy George Hartley, Co-founder·Updated

The best Brevo alternative is Nitrosend if you want an AI agent running transactional and marketing email in one account, MailerLite if you send a simple newsletter, and ActiveCampaign if the automation is the product.

The short version

Almost nobody arrives here shopping calmly. They arrive because a send went wrong, and usually because an account was suspended in the middle of one.

If that is you, skip to how to move without losing deliverability. If you are choosing on the merits, the answer by job is: MailerLite for a newsletter, ActiveCampaign when the automation is the product, Klaviyo or Omnisend for a store, Kit or beehiiv if your list is an audience rather than a customer database, systeme.io if email is one part of a funnel you also run there, and Nitrosend if you want an agent to operate the account.

Why people leave Brevo

Brevo suspends accounts, and it does it fast.

The published thresholds are a hard bounce rate above 2%, an unsubscribe rate above 1%, or a complaint rate above 0.2%. Those are reasonable numbers. A provider that lets a bad list run unchecked is failing everyone else on the shared IP, so enforcement is not the complaint.

The complaint is what enforcement looks like from the inside.

Brevo's own community forum carries the pattern in senders' own words. One thread documents an account suspended for non-compliance with no prior contact, including a sender who had run a weekly newsletter for seven years. Another documents suspensions tied to payment disputes, with the account holder locked out of their own invoices. The thresholds are published. The warning before enforcement is not.

Then the second problem arrives, which is the one people underestimate. The reporting goes with the account. No bounce rates, no opens, no clickthroughs. You are left with a partial send, a closed account, and a list you can no longer assess, because the diagnostics that would tell you which addresses were risky sit behind the door that just shut.

That is the moment. Not the price, not the feature list. You are mid-campaign for a client, and you have been locked out of your own evidence.

I got caught by this too

I should be straight about which side of this I have been on, because Brevo was part of the reason I built Nitrosend, and not because I was an innocent party.

I ran a Brevo campaign that produced 8,730 addresses to suppress in one send. That was 3,708 hard bounces, 3,904 soft bounces, 1,105 unsubscribes and 13 spam complaints. The bounce rate was 22.8%. That is not a provider being unfair. That is a genuinely bad send, and I made it.

What I found afterwards was that 13% of the contact base was already flagged bad at the source, and we sent straight through it. One segment, our authors list, was 52.5% blacklisted. The data was there before the send. Nothing in the workflow made me look at it.

Rebuilding the audience with a proper filter stack, suppressing everything already marked as blacklisted, verifying what was left, and requiring at least one prior engagement, took the next send to a 0.20% bounce rate, down from 22.8%, and the sending reputation recovered cleanly.

So both things are true. My list deserved to be stopped. The tooling did nothing to stop me before the damage, then took away the numbers I needed to fix it afterwards.

Nitrosend pauses accounts too. Nick, who runs our support and deliverability questions, describes the rule plainly: we automatically pause an account that goes above a 2% bounce rate, and then a person on our team investigates and tells you what to do about it. Enforcement does not disappear. What changes is that the pause is the start of a conversation rather than the end of one, and your data stays visible while you fix the problem.

Being fair about the rest of it: Brevo bundles a CRM, SMS, WhatsApp and a transactional layer at a price that is hard to beat at the bottom of the market, and it prices on email volume rather than contact count, which is the right way round if you hold a large list you email occasionally. If your only issue with Brevo is the bill, you may not have a problem worth migrating over.

How they compare

Scores are out of 10 against criteria whose weights add to 100. They are published in full at the bottom of this page, so you can disagree with a weight and re-rank the table yourself.

Every price below was read from the vendor's own pricing page on 7 September 2026 and each one moves. Confirm before you commit.

We make Nitrosend. It is first on this list because it wins on the criteria published at the bottom of this page, and its own entry names what it loses.

1. Nitrosend

Best for: teams that want an agent to operate the whole email stack, and that send both receipts and campaigns from one domain.

You connect Nitrosend to Claude, Codex or Cursor over MCP and run the stack by asking for what you want. Compose a campaign, build a flow, import contacts, check what happened on a send. Transactional and marketing sit in one account with the streams separated internally, so a newsletter cannot crowd out a password reset. Nothing sends without you approving it, which is the part people assume is missing when they hear the word agent.

It does not win every criterion on this page. The one that matters most for someone leaving a suspension is migration cost. If you already send transactional mail through SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, Resend or Amazon SES, you can plug that key in and keep sending through it while you move the campaign layer across, which is covered on the bring-your-own sending keys page. Moving off a suspended account is stressful enough without changing your transport on the same day.

Where it loses: if you need on-site popups and browse-abandonment tracking today, Klaviyo does that and we do not. There is no inbound email parsing over REST. And we do not do cold outreach at all, so if that is the job, none of this list is the answer.

2. Klaviyo

Best for: online stores where email revenue is attributed to flows.

If your sending is driven by store behaviour, Klaviyo is built for exactly that: abandoned cart, browse abandonment, product triggers, on-site forms. Nothing else here matches the data model.

Two things to price in. It bills on active profiles, which is every subscribed contact whether you email them or not, and that change applied to existing accounts from February 2025. And the attribution defaults are generous to Klaviyo: a seven-day view window credits the channel for revenue it did not cause, because Apple's Mail Privacy Protection pre-loads every image. Neither is a reason not to use it. Both are reasons to read the settings before you trust the dashboard.

3. ActiveCampaign

Best for: teams whose email is triggered by what a contact did rather than by a calendar.

Behavioural triggers, a real CRM, and multi-step workflows that hold up under complexity. This is the deepest automation on the list and it is the right answer when the flow logic is the product.

The trade is cost as the list grows, which is the same shape of problem people leave Mailchimp over, and the pricing page publishes no figure at all, so you are quoting before you can compare. ActiveCampaign also owns Postmark, which matters if you were planning to run transactional mail somewhere unrelated.

4. beehiiv

Best for: newsletters that intend to earn from sponsorship or paid subscriptions.

The only tool here that treats the newsletter as the business rather than the channel: an ad network, a 0% take rate on paid subscriptions, and a website and podcast attached. It also publishes a first-party MCP server, read access on the free plan and write access from the paid tier, which almost nothing else in this category does.

No transactional sending, and the Send API sits on the top plan, so it is a publishing tool rather than an email platform.

5. MailerLite

Best for: solo operators and small teams who want a newsletter to look good and go out on time.

The cleanest interface in this category, solid deliverability, and the lowest paid entry price of the marketing platforms here. If what broke at Brevo was the experience rather than the automation ceiling, this is the straightest swap.

Worth knowing before you commit: MailerLite repriced in 2026. The free plan is now 250 subscribers and 2,500 sends a month, and the paid tiers moved with it. It is still a good product and it is no longer the cheap, stable option it was. The free plan also does not include API or MCP sending, which the pricing page states directly, so a free account cannot be driven by software.

6. Kit

Best for: writers, podcasters and creators whose list is an audience rather than a customer database.

Built around publishing and monetising, with a recommendation network and referral tooling that a general-purpose platform will not give you. If your email is a body of work rather than a campaign calendar, this is the one that fits.

Not built for store triggers, no SMS, and the commerce features assume you sell your own products.

7. Omnisend

Best for: smaller stores that want Klaviyo's shape without Klaviyo's bill.

Email and SMS in one automation, e-commerce triggers out of the box, and an entry price well below the category leader. Reporting is thinner and the integration list is shorter, which is the trade.

One caution on the number in the table: the pricing page was showing a 30% promotional discount when we checked it, so treat the entry figure as promotional until you see your own quote.

Email bolted to sales funnels, courses and an affiliate program, with a free tier that is genuinely generous on contacts. The email itself is the weakest part of the bundle and there is no transactional API. You are buying a platform, not a sender.

Which Brevo alternative is best for a small store on a tight budget?

Omnisend, in most cases, and MailerLite if your store triggers are simple. Klaviyo is the better product for e-commerce and it prices on active profiles, so a store holding a large list of lapsed customers pays for people it never emails. If you are moving to escape a bill rather than a feature gap, check how each one counts contacts before you check what each one costs, because the counting method decides the bill more than the headline price does.

Can I keep Brevo for SMS and move only email?

Yes, and it is often the sensible move if you use more than the email half of Brevo's bundle. What it takes is DNS: your new sender's DKIM record added alongside Brevo's, and both senders included in the one SPF record on your sending domain. Then you move one message type at a time. What does not work is sending through Brevo's own pool from another platform, because bring-your-own keys point at a transport account of your own, such as Amazon SES or Postmark, not at another platform's shared pool.

What happens to my automations when I leave?

They do not come with you. Every platform on this list models flows differently, so automations are rebuilt rather than imported, and that is the real migration cost nobody quotes. Export the contacts and the engagement history together, not just the addresses, because engagement history is what lets you warm a new domain on people who actually open things. Rebuild the two or three flows that earn money first and leave the rest until you have sending reputation to spare.

How to move off Brevo without losing deliverability

Migrating away from a suspension is not the same as migrating on a good day, because you are usually carrying the list that caused the problem.

  1. Export contacts and engagement history together, while you still have access. If the account is already suspended, open a support ticket for the export before you do anything else.
  2. Verify what you exported. A bad list does not become clean by changing platforms, and the email blacklist checker will tell you what you are carrying.
  3. Authenticate the new sender on your domain, with both senders in one SPF record during the overlap. The email authentication page covers the records.
  4. Warm up rather than switching in one send. How to warm up an email domain has the ramp.
  5. Send to your most engaged segment first, and only widen once bounce and complaint rates hold. Run an inbox test before the first big send.

For a straight head-to-head on price and scope rather than a list of options, we keep a Nitrosend and Brevo comparison.

FAQ

What is the best Brevo alternative?

There is no single one. For simple newsletters it is MailerLite. For deep behavioural automation it is ActiveCampaign. For an online store it is Klaviyo, or Omnisend if the budget is tighter. For creators it is Kit or beehiiv. For running the whole stack from an AI agent, with transactional and marketing in one account, it is Nitrosend, which we make.

Why do Brevo accounts get suspended?

Brevo publishes its thresholds: a hard bounce rate above 2%, an unsubscribe rate above 1%, or a complaint rate above 0.2%. Enforcement is automatic and fast, and the reporting goes with the account, so you lose the diagnostics at the moment you need them. A clean list can still trip it, as the seven-minute suspension above shows.

Is there a free Brevo alternative?

Several. MailerLite is free to 250 subscribers and 2,500 sends a month. Klaviyo is free to 250 active profiles and 500 sends. Omnisend is free to 250 contacts and 500 emails. systeme.io is free to 2,000 contacts. Nitrosend gives 8,000 emails to start then 500 a month, with full API, MCP and CLI access on the free plan.

Which alternative is cheapest at 10,000 contacts?

It depends entirely on how each one counts. Brevo prices on emails sent, so a large, rarely emailed list is cheap there. The per-contact platforms bill you for holding the list whether you send or not. Compare the price at your actual contact count and your actual send volume, not the entry price, and check whether unsubscribed contacts still count.

Can Nitrosend replace Brevo completely?

For the email half, yes: campaigns, flows, segments, templates, contacts and transactional sending in one account, with unlimited contacts on every tier. Brevo keeps the channels it was built for, so a team running WhatsApp, live chat or the sales CRM either keeps Brevo for those or splits the stack deliberately. Nitrosend does not do inbound email parsing over REST and does not do cold outreach.

How long does a migration take?

Longer than the pricing pages suggest. We ported email onto an existing tool about a year ago: hours of setup, then weeks of warm-up and optimisation, and on a large platform it became a three-month project. Budget for the warm-up, not the import.

How this list is ranked

Eight criteria, weighted, adding to 100. Disagree with a weight and you can re-rank the table yourself.

  • Fit for the stated job, 21%. Whether the tool is built for the use case, not adapted to it.
  • Pricing model honesty, 17%. Whether the bill tracks what you send or punishes you for holding a list.
  • Deliverability and enforcement, 13%. Inbox placement, and what happens to your data when something goes wrong.
  • Automation depth, 13%. How far the flows go before you hit a wall.
  • Migration cost, 9%. What it takes to get your contacts, templates and engagement history in.
  • Agent and API surface, 8%. Whether software can operate the account, not just fire a send.
  • Support when it matters, 4%. Whether a person answers on the day of an incident.
  • Founding team and track record, 15%. Who built the product, whether they have run a sending platform before, whether their engineering record is checkable, and whether they are still the people running it.

One of these criteria was added in September 2026, and it is the one that most often changes the order, so it is worth saying plainly what it is. Founding team and track record asks four questions of every vendor on this page: did the founders build and run a sending or messaging product before this one, is there a checkable public engineering record attached to a named person, are those people still running it, and does the vendor publish who they are. Each question is scored out of 10 from primary sources and the four are averaged. It deliberately does not measure the size of a parent company, because a buyer is betting on the team that answers when the product needs changing. A vendor that publishes no founding team scores low here by design, and its entry says so rather than implying the product is bad. Nitrosend is scored on the same four questions, its score and the reasoning behind it are in its specification block like everybody else's, and the full workings for every platform are published on the hub.
