Marketing is expensive because most agencies still do the mechanical half by hand, and a retainer bills for those hours. The world is shifting to AI chat, and my view is that this is where marketing goes: set a goal, and the agent builds the campaign and writes one-to-one content for each contact. The Chicago firms worth paying have handed the repetitive work to software and kept people on judgment. That is what I rank for below.
1. Wpromote
1Wpromote
Elizabeth Cooney, Group Director, Client Strategy, Wpromote
- Best for
- Serious paid-media budgets that want owned tooling
- Location
- 125 S Wacker Dr., Suite 1800, Chicago, one of three offices, with the head office in El Segundo
- Platforms
- Microsoft Elite Partner, Google Premier Partner, Amazon Ads Advanced Partner, The Trade Desk Premier Partner
- AI stack
- Polaris IQ, Growth Planner
The deepest measurement software on this list, run from a real downtown office. Wpromote's Polaris IQ blends SEO metrics with real-time AI-driven traffic data and tracks how often a brand appears in LLM answers across about 300 prompts and 15 topics. Growth Planner, its media mix model, does AI-powered budget allocation and forecasting at a claimed 95 percent accuracy, a figure Wpromote publishes about itself with no method.
The Chicago team works from 125 S Wacker Dr., Suite 1800, one of three offices, and Group Director of Client Strategy Elizabeth Cooney is among 46 staff LinkedIn places here. It holds Microsoft Elite and Google Premier partner status. Travelpro's 107 percent organic revenue gain is an SEO result, not proof of the AI tooling, and its QuickBooks case renders as unreadable counters, so I printed none of it.
Take it when the budget is large enough that owned measurement software is worth paying for.
2. iCrossing
2iCrossing
Scot Havrilla, VP, Client Solutions Partner, iCrossing
- Best for
- Enterprise teams that need governed AI
- Location
- Chicago regional hub, one of four in North America; no Chicago street address published
- AI stack
- iX Accelerator
The most autonomous machinery in Chicago, built for enterprise clients. iCrossing says its iX Accelerator platform executed 2.5 million bid adjustments autonomously in the last 30 days, alongside predictive planning and LLM visibility monitoring. The case work ties AI to numbers: a governed GenAI workflow optimized metadata on 130 Shell Eco-marathon pages and saved 50 hours, and AI-assisted editorial gave a hospitality brand 10X more articles and 68 percent more organic traffic.
Chicago is one of four North American regional hubs of the Hearst-owned firm, with its own Chicago office page but no street address on it. Three of its AI cases, the hospitality, B2B enterprise and automotive ones, name no client. Gartner has recognized it.
Take it when you are an enterprise that wants AI in production under governance, not a pilot.
3. Walker Sands
3Walker Sands
Andrew Cross, Co-CEO, Walker Sands
- Best for
- B2B tech PR, content and outbound
- Location
- 55 West Monroe, Floor 39, Chicago, with offices in Boston, Seattle and San Francisco
- Platforms
- Clay, HubSpot
- AI stack
- Clay
The largest Chicago team here, and the only award on this page I could trace to its awarding body. Walker Sands is a Clay implementation and orchestration partner that automates account research, enrichment and list-building, and it publishes a B2B AI Search Visibility Benchmark. It ranks sixth in B2B Marketing's best US B2B marketing agencies for 2026.
In 10 years of doing email, we never had constant requests for AI outbound until now, and this is the engine those requests are about. The office is at 55 West Monroe, Floor 39, Co-CEO Andrew Cross is in Chicago, and LinkedIn places 75 of its staff in the city. The automation runs on Clay rather than its own software, and no client number is tied to it.
Take it when you sell B2B technology and want PR, content and automated outbound from one Chicago team.
4. Straight North
4Straight North
Frank Fornaris, President, Straight North
- Best for
- Mid-market B2B lead generation at a published price
- Location
- 200 N Green St, Floor 3, Chicago, with the head office at 1001 W. 31st Street, Downers Grove
- Platforms
- Skai
- AI stack
- Skai, GoNorth!
One of two ranked firms that publish prices, and the clearest paid-search automation here. Straight North runs paid campaigns on Skai's AI platform plus its own GoNorth! reporting, with AI-powered alerts that trigger analyst adjustments. Its AI reference page lists engagements from $1,000 a month, with most clients at $5,000 to $10,000 excluding media, next to Steadfast Painting's 620 percent more PPC leads at 80 percent lower cost per acquisition.
Kelair Dampers reports 211 percent more organic leads and 425 percent more Google AI visibility. The head office is in Downers Grove, with a Chicago office at 200 N Green St, and President Frank Fornaris is in the Chicago area. The bidding AI is licensed from Skai rather than built in-house, and several figures read as client quotes.
Take it when you want paid search and SEO at a price you can see before you call.
5. JumpFly
5JumpFly
Pat Knudsen, Director, Digital Strategy & Analytics, JumpFly
- Best for
- Ecommerce on Google, Amazon and paid social
- Location
- Bell Works Business Center, 2000 Center Dr, Suite A221, Hoffman Estates, in the northwest suburbs
- Platforms
- Google Premier Partner
- AI stack
- Predictive AI Audiences
The ecommerce specialist, with one clean AI result. JumpFly sells Predictive AI Audiences as a named service, and its Battery Mart case reports a 26 percent ROAS increase and 85 percent higher order value from those audiences against other traffic sources. The rest of its case studies are Google and Amazon work, including a coffee equipment brand taken from 9x to 17x ROAS on Amazon.
From our experience with Bluethumb, audience size did not change performance, and small audiences can yield good ROAS, so a model that finds the right few earns its keep. The office is a suite in Bell Works Business Center in Hoffman Estates, outside the city, and Pat Knudsen, its director of digital strategy, is in the Chicago area. The audience model is not described beyond the case study.
Take it when you sell online through Google and Amazon and want audience modeling included.
6. Ice Nine Online
6Ice Nine Online
Matt Chiera, Founder and Principal Consultant, Ice Nine Online
- Best for
- B2B on WordPress that wants agents in the CMS
- Founded
- 2014
- Team size
- Small, founder-led
- Location
- 444 W. Lake Street, Suite 1700, Chicago, a serviced-office suite
- AI stack
- Custom MCP servers for WordPress
The closest thing in Chicago to agents doing the work inside a client's own system. Ice Nine builds custom MCP servers so agents in Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini can read and write a client's WordPress data, for research-to-publish pipelines, bulk metadata updates and turning a post into social and email copy. Claude doesn't need MCP to call an API; Claude needs MCP to know what API to call, and that is the layer Ice Nine builds.
It works only with B2B companies and reports 10,000 marketing-qualified leads for a Chicago B2B client over three years. Founder Matt Chiera started it in 2014 and is account manager and lead consultant himself. He is its only Chicago employee on LinkedIn, and no agent build has a client number yet.
Take it when you want agents working inside your own WordPress site and a senior consultant building them.
7. Analytics Mates
7Analytics Mates
Gary Spagnoli, Founder & CEO, Analytics Mates
- Best for
- Broken GA4 and ad-platform conversion data
- Founded
- 2022
- Location
- Chicago, where the founder is based; no office address published
- Platforms
- Google Partner, ActiveCampaign Partner
- AI stack
- The Helm
A measurement specialist rather than a full agency, ranked because it ships its own AI. The Helm is a self-serve GA4 AI agent, sold alongside GA4 and GTM repair, paid-media signal audits and offline conversion dispatch back to the ad platforms. Lancaster Orthopedic Group reached 5,008 appointment bookings, up 22.4 percent, with conversion rising from about 2.2 to 3.8 percent.
Broken tracking is where agency money leaks. I have watched Klaviyo's attribution over-attribute badly on a long view window, and I suspect it counted Apple robot opens as well. Founder Gary Spagnoli set the firm up in 2022 out of Zen Anchor Digital and is based in Chicago, with no office address and no other Chicago staff on LinkedIn. Its numbered results come from measurement fixes, not from The Helm.
Take it first when your tracking is broken, before you pay anyone to spend more.
8. TERAMOK
8TERAMOK
Kirill Samarits, Founder & CEO, TERAMOK
- Best for
- Real estate developers and architects
- Founded
- 2019
- Location
- Chicago headquarters, studio and film crew, with strategy, brand and web run remotely; no street address published
A niche shop for developers and architects, with published prices. TERAMOK rebuilds architecture project pages as retrievable facts (type, location, size, year and role) with matching structured data. At Nitrosend we want LLMs to index us properly so that they understand our feature set, and a building has the same problem. A Miami residential developer recorded 112 sessions arriving from AI assistants as their own channel, and a Chicago developer reserved 22 of 48 West Loop units before groundbreaking.
Its rate sheet runs $8,000 to $25,000 a month, with websites from $18,000. The About page puts headquarters, studio and film crew in Chicago, with strategy, brand and web run remotely. The founder is its only Chicago employee on LinkedIn and most named clients are Greek.
Take it when you market buildings and want film, pre-sale campaigns and AI-search visibility from one niche shop.
9. Digital Authority Partners
9Digital Authority Partners
Michael Reddy, President, Digital Authority Partners
- Best for
- Healthcare and B2B firms chasing AI-search visibility
- Location
- Chicago headquarters at 420 West Huron, with further offices listed in San Diego and Las Vegas and a South Africa team
- Platforms
- Google, HubSpot
A broad Chicago services firm that puts numbers on being cited by AI. Digital Authority Partners lists two AI Workflow Engineers and an API Integration Engineer on its team page. The case work counts citations: Jobsity earned 9 AI answer citations and its first lead from an AI assistant, The Dental Medical Convergence logged 164 AI search citations, and Centella Health Technologies reports a 92.2 percent AI share of voice.
It is headquartered in Chicago at 420 West Huron, and President Michael Reddy is in the Chicago area. It also lists San Diego and Las Vegas offices and a South Africa team, and the site does not say where the AI engineers sit. The menu runs from web design to custom software with no single practice, and the AI results are about being cited, not automating delivery.
Take it when you want to be cited in AI answers and want a firm that publishes the citation counts.
10. Effective Marketing Communication
10Effective Marketing Communication
Sam Karow, Founder and President, Effective Marketing Communication
- Best for
- CPG and retail-media advertisers
- Team size
- Small, founder-led
- Location
- Chicago, where the founder is based; no office address published
- AI stack
- Custom GPTs and Gems
A small Chicago media buyer that sets its clients up with their own AI. Effective builds custom GPTs and Gems for marketing teams, and designs AI workflows and agents and trains staff to run them. On the media side, a mobile-coupon trigger campaign lifted sales 11.6 percent against the pre-campaign period, from its retail-media and commerce work. Founder and President Sam Karow runs it from Chicago.
The AI offer is consulting and training, and no client result is tied to it yet. The Chicago Bears and Morningstar Farms appear on its homepage without case detail. Karow is the only Chicago employee LinkedIn lists. It fits a consumer brand that wants a hands-on media buyer and a team trained on its own GPTs.
Take it when you want a hands-on media buyer who will also set your team up with its own GPTs.
Also worth knowing
These Chicago firms were considered and are not ranked.
Orbit Media Studios is one of Chicago's best-known web and SEO shops, with 50-plus staff in Ravenswood, but its AI disclosure page describes AI for research with human validation, not an automated workflow.
Siege Media is a strong GEO specialist with a Director of Automation and a Chicago address, with 2 staff in Chicago. Brafton runs a real AI production system with one person in Chicago. WebFX has heavy proprietary AI tooling and a Chicago office, with 3 of 750-plus staff here. All three are strong firms with little team in Chicago.
Comrade Digital Marketing Agency is a Chicago contractor-marketing specialist whose AI search results are marketing for AI search, and whose AI Grader is a free lead-generation checker. Marcel Digital lists AI automation and LLM ads as services with no workflow or result behind them. Accelerated Digital Media mentions AI only in case headlines about Google's own machine learning. Clique Studios publishes one AI-search statistic and states a preference for human-led content. Digital Third Coast has an AI-visibility role and no automation in delivery. Definian is an enterprise data consultancy, not a marketing agency. Mabbly sells "a live AI layer" with no described function. Rise, a Quad agency claims custom agentic AI and describes nothing behind it.
Solid Digital runs a real in-house AI Lab, with no street address, no named people on the site and no Chicago team. HK Digital has real paid-media alerting software, with only its Managing Director in Chicago and Los Angeles as its base. Innovaxis states that it is made of human beings, not algorithms. Proceed Innovative and Logical Media Group list AI audits and AI bidding as services without results. Pilot Digital Marketing sells a $199 a month AI visibility tracker with one named client and no people on its site. Ogilvy has a real Chicago office, and its AI work is the subject of campaigns, not delivery automation. Flamingo Agency lists chatbot and automation services with no case studies and no named people. 120/80 automates LinkedIn outreach, with no AI in client delivery.
Sixth City Marketing (Ohio), Thrive Internet Marketing Agency (Texas), dNOVO Group (Toronto), Digital Silk (Miami) and PopArt Studio (Novi Sad, Serbia) are headquartered outside Chicago, and Adcetera (Houston) and Brand Vision (Toronto) are headquartered elsewhere with AI only as service lines. Americaneagle.com is a web development and hosting firm, Praella a Shopify developer, Elit-Web and VALMAX are web studios with AI only as a line item or a client's product, VisualFizz uses AI only as its clients' industry, Bounteous is remote-first with no Chicago office on its locations page, and Leo Burnett makes no AI claim about its delivery. Ten Speed is fully remote with AEO service lines only.
Grand Marketing Solutions, Rebrandmint, BizzBuzz.AI and Running Start Digital publish no case studies and have at most one person, and the last two also appear in my Chicago email agency research.
How to choose between them
If the budget is large and spread across channels, Wpromote owns its measurement and forecasting software, and iCrossing runs the most autonomous bidding and content workflows for enterprise teams that need governance. If you sell B2B technology and want PR, content and an automated outbound engine from one Chicago team, take Walker Sands. If you want paid search at a published price, Straight North tells you the number before the first call.
Ecommerce brands on Google and Amazon should look at JumpFly. A B2B company on WordPress that wants agents inside its own CMS should talk to Ice Nine Online. If your tracking is broken, fix it with Analytics Mates before you pay anyone else to spend. TERAMOK is for real estate and architecture only, Digital Authority Partners for healthcare and B2B firms that want to be cited in AI answers, and Effective Marketing Communication for consumer brands that want a media buyer who trains the team. My view is that the Meta and Google ad accounts should be set up in your own name, not the agency's, whichever you pick.
How this list is ranked
How this list is ranked
I score every marketing agency here on four criteria, for a total out of 50: AI automation out of 20, and specialization, published evidence and a real Chicago team, each out of 10. Each card links the sources behind its score.
Nitrosend, which I co-founded, publishes this page. It is an email platform for agencies, not a marketing agency, and is not ranked.
FAQ
Wpromote, if you are picking one name with no other constraint, because it combines owned AI measurement software, the strongest published evidence on this list and a staffed office on Wacker Drive. From there the shortlist splits by what you need: iCrossing for governed AI at enterprise scale, Walker Sands for B2B tech PR and outbound, Straight North for paid search at a published price, and Ice Nine Online for agents wired into WordPress.
The difference shows in what each one publishes. Wpromote puts a claimed accuracy figure on its media mix model. iCrossing counts the bid adjustments its platform made on its own. Ice Nine lists the agent workflows it builds. Read those three pages and you will know which of them describes your problem.
Between $1,000 and $25,000 a month on retainer, with most published Chicago figures between $3,000 and $10,000, and large multidisciplinary programs at $20,000 to $40,000 or more. Two of the ten ranked firms publish their rates, and the rest of the range comes from other Chicago firms that do.
Straight North starts engagements at $1,000 a month, and most clients invest $5,000 to $10,000 in management, not including media. TERAMOK's retainers run $8,000 to $25,000 a month. Logical Media Group starts SEO at $2,500 a month, with most clients at $3,000 to $6,000, and Dental Marketing Firm puts most practices at $2,000 to $6,000 a month in management fees plus ad spend. At the top, Clique Studios starts digital partner retainers around $5,000 to $10,000 a month and runs larger programs at $20,000 to $40,000 or more, Be Found Online's BlueFrame Growth retainer averages $10,000 to $20,000 a month, and Mabbly starts at $15,000 a month.
AI work is priced as add-ons. Comrade's AI search optimization add-on starts at $1,800 a month, and Pilot Digital's AI visibility tracking starts at $199 a month. INSIDEA, which has no Chicago office, prices custom agent builds from $30,000 and managed AI operations at $5,000 to $25,000 a month.
The number to check a quote against is the in-house cost. Walker Sands pays an Associate PR Director $85,000 to $105,000 and a Senior Copywriter $72,500 to $75,000, roles listed for Chicago among other cities. Wpromote's remote US Paid Search Manager posting pays $74,000 to $90,000, about $6,200 to $7,500 a month in base salary for one channel, and its Director, Paid Search pays $120,000 to $130,000. My view is that paying more for an agency is right when you have no team and no experience running the channel yourself.
The ad spend, and often the software. A retainer buys people and their hours, and the media budget sits on top: Straight North's figures exclude paid media and Dental Marketing Firm's are "plus ad spend". TERAMOK states it takes a 0 percent markup on media, which is worth asking every other firm about. Platform subscriptions are usually billed to you, and so is model usage when an agency runs AI agents for you.
Ask who owns the accounts. The ad accounts, the analytics property and the email platform should be in your company's name, so the history stays with you if the agency changes. Analytics Mates' audit work exists because that data is so often broken when it changes hands.
Look for one of four things: a named tool with a described function, a named workflow, a person with an AI or automation role on the team, or a case study that ties automation to a number. A banner is not evidence.
Every AI point on this page links to one of those. Walker Sands names the Clay workflow it automates. JumpFly ties its predictive audiences to a ROAS figure.
On four criteria, for a total out of 50: AI automation out of 20, and specialization, published evidence and a real Chicago team, each out of 10. Every AI point links to its source.
